May Soma: Soft Core
Sunday 18th May from 2-5.30pm
The Light Centre
Belgravia, London
We’ve come to think of our ‘core’ in a way that isolates it from the rest of our body. Within somatic movement however, the core is viewed as a vital connection point that is capable of stabilising us through complex movement patterns. By emphasising a softer, more fluid approach to the core body we’ll unlock new and powerful ways of engaging with this soft tissue.
What is Monthly Soma?
These monthly half-day retreats aim to create a space where we’re able to deepen our connection to ourselves through ‘embodiment practices’ such as somatic movement, Yin yoga and sound baths. Embodiment practices use the body as a tool for healing by increasing our self-awareness, self-regulation and self-acceptance. By gifting ourselves this intentional moment to pause each month we allow time to self-reflect, to gather momentum and often return to daily life with more focus.
What is Somatic movement?
Somatics is a movement practice that focuses on the internal perception of the body, emphasising how something feels rather than how it looks. The often free-form, creative and exploratory nature of somatic movement can put us quite far out of our comfort zone if we’re more used to going from one familiar pose to another. These half-day retreats are specifically aimed at giving you a gradual introduction to the central ideas of somatics and will encourage you to reconnect to your body’s innate intelligence. You’ll learn to harness mindful attention and gentle movement to heighten awareness of your Self and your sensations. Many will also uncover an increased ease and range of motion, improved flexibility and coordination. This method of movement has proven benefits for professional athletes, actors, dancers, martial artists, as well as those working around pain and/or physical limitations. All levels of experience will be most welcome.
Monthly Soma half-day retreats are offered on a sliding scale pricing:
£15 Supported | £35 Standard | £45 Supporter
